Shotty shotty oneshot....shotgun?

October 23, 2007 | 2 Comments

So I've been challenged to partake in Random's WAFF contest....by the man himself. I didn't know whether we weren't supposed to talk about it, or what. Oh well, too late, I'll just assume it's not like Fight Club (rules 1&2, etc), so we can. Since I'm taking an indefinite break from Promises, I figure writing something else that isn't so long and complicated will do me good. Only problem is breaking from that habit, because by god do I love to make things complicated. =) I'm going to be holding my own nose to the grindstone to challenge myself to take the idea I've started with and use it pull something decent together and actually worth submitting. Who knows, maybe it'll actually be somewhat impressive?

The jig is up. I've come to the unfortunate realization that my entire plan of execution for Promises to Keep is flawed. It won't give rise to a good story. There is a whole bunch of content that is pure, golden, and original that I was attempting to forcibly mash into the pre-existing canon EVA storyline. Lesson learned...hard. I've removed Chapter 2 and posted a revision to Chapter 1 so that it looks less disgraceful and can stand there as a placeholder for something new. Bear with me while I try and sort out how to take all of the good ideas I've come up with and put them together into a story that will not fail colossally. Cheers, -MM

Garner your fisticuffs, boi. We're gonna wrastle.

I seem to recall mentioning somewhere (the EFO forums I think) that I'd written the first three chapters of "Promises to Keep" already. Yeah, about that: I lied. I only had the first two, and what is now PART of chapter 3 written. I decided that to release it in its state of brevity would just be cruel to whatever readers I actually have. So, right now Chapter 3 is almost done, and is going to be slightly longer than the first two combined. For good reason, as you'll see. Truth be told, I'm in a bit of a funk right now. Some nice people are trying to help me out of it, especially the ones who put me into it in the first place. I don't want to disclose too much, but these recent developments may result in a longer hold on Chapter 3, and potentially a complete recall of the first two. Shock? Not to most people, apparently.

So I just stumbled across what the hardest part of having to deal with writing in an already-established universe like EVA is: Re-telling a scene or episode without any major deviations--but writing it in such a way that it has a new angle and is still captivating and original. God damn. How the heck did Hotwire manage to do it for "Together We Stand"? I'm trying my best here, since it's just this one part that needs to be done for a plot device, but my inner muse is failing me bigtime.

More than just myself

Blogs? In MY darkscribes.org? It's more likely than you think. *ahem* Nonsense aside, I'm wondering what the best way is to go about getting some additional input on a story? I can only go so far as to be my own muse, short of fragmenting my psyche. If anyone who isn't completely burned out on evangelion has a spare moment and wouldn't mind doing some beta/pre-reading...drop me a line?
