Signups but no activity

I've been noticing that there are people who are signing up for an author account here at Darkscribes but they aren't doing anything with those accounts. We have seven users that are sitting in the queue of users to be approved but they aren't going to get approved if you don't post content.

Now, here's the story... we aren't going to approve your account until we get a story posted from you. Any story, it could even be a work in progress, just post it. We need active people here and we aren't looking to inflate our numbers here, we need people to post stories here. We aren't looking to padd our numbers here.

Now, as many of you know, when you signup for an account here you receive a message telling you that your account isn't approved yet every two days. You get a total of twenty of these emails over a span of 40 days. 40 days is more than enough time to be able to signup and post some content. At the end of the 40 days your account will be deleted automatically. We do this to help clean the site up.

So is there a problem here? Are you having issues posting content? Are you just completely lost? TELL US! The only way we can help you as a new author is to tell us that you are having issues. I will be more than happy to help you along the way in getting your content on the site.

New Story Text Posting System

I've heard the complaints, I've heard the yelling. A lot of people didn't like the way that posting story text mainly because it was so hard to post content in from Microsoft Word. And even if you did somehow get your story text in and semi-cleaned up the text was then mangled by Darkscribes' posting system. Yep, I know.

Well, those days are gone. I've switched to another HTML editor for the usage of posting story content. I've tested the new way of posting story text and I've been able to paste in from Microsoft Word and have the formatting work perfectly the first time, every time.

So go on, try the new posting system; I'm sure you'll agree with me that the new system is leaps and bounds better than the old way.

Getting the groove back

Been trying to figure out what to work on and what to start. I'm pretty much stuck at the moment on all my works but I am trying. I'm currently trying to get any wayward ideas typed out and saved off if only so I can refocus on what I have online. It's going to take a bit, and might actually see the profile increase in size a lot without any real change to my completetion status.

Here's the last update to the FFN profile for your idea of what is going on.

Completed

The Alchemist, The Plant, and The Detective: (Fullmetal Alchemist/Batman TAS) -Completed as of 31-July-2008- The fastest fic I've ever written. I still have Eva fics that I'm working on that have been around longer then this fic. The Epilogue will be posted shortly. end of the week I should have some thing for an OST for anyone interested.

Exile: (Evangelion) If you didn't know what the price of paradise would be, would you hate the one who denied it to you? Came up with the idea when I thought about how all souls were for a moment one singular being. Also while they were experiencing their own paradise what would they feel on a level beyond conscious thought? Would their still be some kind of connection? Would an equally powerful directive from a determined enough source override that? Here's an answer to that concept.

Currently In Progress (Updated as of 14 May 2010)

Beyond Fullmetal: (Fullmetal Alchemist/Batman Beyond) Running into a block on this one, it's a little difficult even though I have the entire ending in my head. Looks like the spurt of creativity has finally ended. Gonna try to squeeze what I can out of this and then move on to other fics. Need to finish her up. I want to finish it as wel as I finished the first fic but on an up note.

Forgotten Warriors: (Evangelion/Babylon 5) Chapter 6 posted, the long awaited Chapter 6. I have gotten some new inspiration after watching seasons one and two. It's helped a lot.

A Soul Possessed: (Evangelion) I'm actually considering starting from square one on this fic and reimagining it all. My style has evolved so much from when this fic was first started I don't know if I can continue it in the voice it is currently in. I'll see what I can do over time, but no promises where it will be at for the forseeable future.

Wandering Soul: (Evangelion) Current chapter is in preperation. got some good ideas for a starter and to get things more interesting. Lets see how it works out.

A New Life: (Evangelion) Also on consideration for complete overhaul. I don't do comedy while this story does scream for it. I definatly am reconcidering how I have been approaching this story.

Forever: (Evangelion) Chapter 3 I plan to introduce the new forms of the rest of the Angels and to bring in the stories main antagonist. We'll see how it goes from there.

Neko-Waffers: (Evangelion) Debating how stoned or on how much acid I want you folk thinking I'm on as I progress with this fic. Gendo Ikari shall find himself reborn.

Run - (Evangelion) A lot of events to plot out on this one. Shadowy MIBs, play dates, and Familial Redemption

A Walk in the Park - (Evangelion) Goofy Ghosts and strange tea party guests.

Insubordinate - (Evangelion) A Series of drabbles and longer chapters focusing on Ghosts haunting people.

Tear - (Evangelion) An idea borne of multiple "Shinji ends up in a better world" dimension crossing fics. this time Shinji does end up there, but he can't take part. Just protect it.

Walking Home - (Evangelion) An idea I had, of a Shinji that spent the ten years prior to Eva walkig the world like Qui-Chang Kane from the old Series Kung-fu. How would he be different? What type of person would he grow into? Who would he meet? And how would it affect his interactions and relationships with the people of NERV?

A Life Hidden: (Harry Potter) Got a lot of ideas for this as it progresses, going to keep working on it, not sure how to keep fucking with things, but we'll see.

Son of Hogwarts: (Harry Potter) Working on making things at a real high point so when it all goes to hell later it's a lot more powerful.

Planning stages

Rifts: (Fullmetal Alchemist) Edward Elric and Alfons Hienrich discover an unknown spacial phenomenon as they test one of their rockets. This leads to Edward having to find a way to reaffirm the boy he was, and try to make right things that went horribly wrong.

Gateways: (Fullmetal Alchemist) This is a collection of short ideas of several ways Ed could get back from Munich. Will involve multiple crossovers over multiple series including Xmen, Doctor Who, and Torchwood. May also involve Hellsing, but not sure yet.

Crossover: (Fullmetal Alchemist) Edward and Alphonse struggle with life in Munich as they receive a cry for help from a former enemy.

Alternate Stones: (Fullmetal Alchemist) The Gate isn't the only pathway to another world.

Corruption of Faith: (Fullmetal Alchemist) Something horrible has happened to Winry. Resembool is not the quiet town Ed and Al left all those years ago. With the support of Mustang and his fellow military comrades Edward seeks to find out what happened to his home town in his absence.

Not So Equivalent: (Fullmetal Alchemist) Edward had just a bit of the Philosophers Stone remaining after Alphonse resurrected him. HE had a choice to make, he just didn't know that it would lead to this.

From Beyond: (Batman Beyond/Crow) A Batman Beyond/Crow Crossover.

Stand of the Dark Knight: (Justice League) A Justice League AU fic, building off the epidode "A Better World." Always felt a few things weren't right in that one. I'll have more ready as I keep going.

Future Knights: (Justice League/Batman Beyond) JLU/Batman Beyond mix. Lots of possibilities, no concensus in my head yet. Couple of ideas about what this one can be.

Chance Encounters: (Batman TAS) Batman TAS fic, Poison Ivy/Robin Centric fic idea. It's a thought.

Restless: (Evangelion) Evangelion based fanfic. This one will take on the way of the show Ghost Hunter's. No people from that show will be in it, but the setup of the story will be like an investigation from it. We'll see how it evolves.

No Man's Land: (Batman Beyond) A Batman Beyond Retelling of the Batman Comic Series arc "No Man's Land"

Massive Amounts of Bug Fixes and Changes

I just finished applying a whole lot of bug fixes across the site, mainly with the ability to post comments. Those of you who were having difficulty posting comments should be able to post comments now.

A new feature was implemented when it comes to comments. When you post a comment you have the ability to be notified when future comments are posted to the same item you posted a comment to. This is similar to how Facebook works when you post a comment on a friend's status update and when other people post comments you get notified. Being subscribed is the default option but can be opted out by simply unchecking a checkbox upon posting a comment. Information to unsubscribe is included in the emails that are dispatched by the system.

Update: An additional small fix has been applied to the Add Comment module in which users who are subscribed to comments would receive an email message with no specified From header. This in no way prevented emails from being sent, it just made email messages appear to come from nobody and may have triggered some spam filters.

Additional Changes
When display comments for a story or show a story, there is an Add Comment form. Before there was an option to be able to post the comment right away without previewing it first, this has been changed. You must now preview the comment before you post it. Re-Captcha has also been removed from the initial comment post form since it's no longer needed since you have to preview the comment first anyways.

Re-authentication

New security measures have been put into place to help harden the security of your login sessions and the overall security of this web site. These changes include having to resupply your login credentials every two days. This is to make sure that your session stays secure.

Sign Up Errors

It has been brought to my attention that for some reason, applications for this site have been failing. This has been fixed and we are now accepting applications again.

Broke Mailing List Subscription Links

The Mailing List Subscription Links on author and story pages have been fixed. Many of those links were resulting in 404 errors.

Darkscribes and Facebook

Darkscribes and Facebook are now linked!

What does that mean to you? With Darkscribes being linked you can not only login with your Facebook account but have Darkscribes post links to your Facebook Wall whenever you post a new story or chapter here at Darkscribes.

To get your Darkscribes account linked to your Facebook account, login as usual into Darkscribes and then find "Facebook Connect" under UserCP on the right side of the screen. Click the Facebook icon and then it will link your accounts together. On the resulting page there will be a link that you must click on after linking the accounts. This is to make it so that Darkscribes has permission to post to your Facebook Wall. You can then use your Facebook login to log into Darkscribes as well.

New URL system

Darkscribes is in the process of changing to a new URL system. These new URLs will make finding things on Darkscribes easier for you, the visitor, and also the search engines.

Right now we are still in the middle of the transition phase, meaning there may be some time when you may get a 404 File Not Found error message. Rest assured that I have tracking processes in place for these errors and will correct them as fast as humanly possible.

Updates on the new URL system

I have been working the log file entries that are generated when a 404 event occurs. I've been working hard and I have already fixed many 404 errors across the site.

Another Update

Adding comments have been fixed.
