Broke Mailing List Subscription Links

The Mailing List Subscription Links on author and story pages have been fixed. Many of those links were resulting in 404 errors.

Darkscribes and Facebook

Darkscribes and Facebook are now linked!

What does that mean to you? With Darkscribes being linked you can not only login with your Facebook account but have Darkscribes post links to your Facebook Wall whenever you post a new story or chapter here at Darkscribes.

To get your Darkscribes account linked to your Facebook account, login as usual into Darkscribes and then find "Facebook Connect" under UserCP on the right side of the screen. Click the Facebook icon and then it will link your accounts together. On the resulting page there will be a link that you must click on after linking the accounts. This is to make it so that Darkscribes has permission to post to your Facebook Wall. You can then use your Facebook login to log into Darkscribes as well.

New URL system

Darkscribes is in the process of changing to a new URL system. These new URLs will make finding things on Darkscribes easier for you, the visitor, and also the search engines.

Right now we are still in the middle of the transition phase, meaning there may be some time when you may get a 404 File Not Found error message. Rest assured that I have tracking processes in place for these errors and will correct them as fast as humanly possible.

Updates on the new URL system

I have been working the log file entries that are generated when a 404 event occurs. I've been working hard and I have already fixed many 404 errors across the site.

Adding comments have been fixed.

The Darkscibes Terms of Service have been changed. Please click here to read the changes.

The changes to the Terms of Service are as below...

Darkscribes reserves the right to be able to publish links to your works on third-party web sites such as StumbleUpon in the promotion of those works. Darkscribes also reserves the right to publish your works on third-party web sites in the promotion of those works.

Darkscribes and the staff of Darkscribes promises that full credit for those works will be given and will be retained by the authors of those works.

Updates on the contest and a new domain name

First of all, I'd like to update you all on the status of the writing contests. We are still in the organizing phase right now and we should the writing contests ready to go as soon as we have the prizes that we will be giving away to the winners of those contests.

We also have a new domain name, http://www.darkscribes.com.

Everything will work exactly the same. The forums and the image gallery will continue to function under the .ORG domain name but the main site will function under both domain names. I do have stress that if you login under the .ORG domain name your login will not carry over to the .COM domain for security reasons.

Getting closer to the writing contests

We're getting closer to having the writing contests online. We already have a theme going and all that needs to be acquired is a set of prizes that will be given to the winners of the contest.

Just thought that I'd post an update to say what is going on. I know things have been quiet for awhile but rest assured that we are working on getting this right.

Darkscribes Writing Contests

If you take a look above this news article you will find a new link right below the Darkscribes site banner. That new link is "Contests", to be specific, "Writing Contests".

Yep, that's right. Darkscribes will be hosting a series of writing contests. It's like the Takoballs of yesteryear but much much better!

Why are we doing this? Well, it's kind of selfish but good at the same time. You see, we want more visitors and we want more stories being posted to Darkscribes, and we just want Darkscribes to be more popular. What better way to do than to start some contests. But not only is it good for us, but it is good for you, the author, since your stories will be given "front row seating" on Darkscribes

Contests will be run at random and front page news articles will be posted regarding any new contests that we may run. Most of the time we will be making contests that only new stories can be included in on, afterall, we want more stories. We will however be running some contests that existing stories can be included in on. Winners of those contests will be featured on the front page of Darkscribes for even more exposure to the visitors of Darkscribes.

All of this is an effort to revive Darkscribes and bring back the good old days when the community was lively, active, and overall the place for fanfiction and creative writing.

Keeping This Site Alive

I have been for a long time thinking of ways to help reinvigorate this site, rebuild interest, bring fresh and new content to the site. The first step in doing this was to open the site up for much much more than just Evangelion-based fanfic stories. I've known for a long time that keeping this site tied to a series that has been out of the limelight for as long as it has isn't exactly going to keep the visitors flowing to the site.

All of the changes that have happened to Darkscribes since I took over as the chief developer of the site is to help sustain the site. I have no intention to see the site die. Many of you here know I've put in more time than one would consider healthy into the maintenance of this site.

I know that some of these changes haven't been seen as popular among the Darkscribes community; believe me, these changes needed to be done.

I've not talked much with LD within the last couple of months. He has been dealing with some personal issues that have consumed much of his time and hasn't left much time for keeping a watch over this site. This has left me as the sole person to keep watch over this site for much of the last three to four months. I have no problem with this, I can keep this site alive.

But I also know that I can't do all of this on my own. I need help from the community and visitors of this site to help drum up more content and to keep visitors flowing and interest high. I am more than open to suggestions, in fact I welcome them. I want to hear from each and every one of you on ways to help keep this site alive and to bring new authors, stories, and visitors to this site. I will listen to each and every idea and consider them all, the days of "the gestapo" are over and I promise that everyone will have a voice in the coming future of this site.
